Hyperglycemia – Causes, Symptoms and Natural Treatment
Contents
Hyperglycemia is a term that indicates that in our blood there is too much glucose. This occurs when the body does not have enough insulin or has enough, but can not use it properly. When the glucose concentration exceeds 120 mg per 100 ml of blood, the condition occurs. Generally, hyperglycemia is manifested by increased feelings of thirst, hunger, frequent urination and even fatigue.
Hyperglycemia – Causes and Symptoms
Hyperglycemia usually occurs when the body has an insufficient intake of insulin. This may happen because of dietary excesses, lack of physical activity or diabetes. Hyperglycemia occurs frequently after meals, especially if they contain many carbohydrates, because the pancreas can not produce enough insulin.
Another cause of hyperglycemia is present in the excess of hyperglycaemic hormone. Even stress or powerful emotions are often regarded as important causes of hyperglycemia occurance.
The most common symptoms of hyperglycemia are:
– Frequent urination
– Constant thirst
– Exaggerated culinary appetite
– Blurred vision
– Fatigue and drowsiness
– Bad breath
Blood glucose should be tested at least once a day, using a meter. When blood sugar is 200 mg/dl ( 11 mmol/L ), symptoms like dry mouth, dry lips, slight difficulty in speaking and thirsty appear. Thirst can be countered by drinking larger quantities of water, sometimes exceeding 4-6 liters per day.
Persistent high blood glucose levels for several days will result in a gradual dehydration of the entire body, “fried” tongue, dry skin, reduced muscle strength, fatigue, weight loss, blurred vision, slight decrease in blood pressure. When blood glucose exceeds 300 mg/dl (16.7 mmol/L) nausea occurs. If blood glucose exceeds 360 mg / dl (20 mmol/L), vomiting may occur also.
