An upset or tense stomach can have multiple causes, from viruses to constipation or stomach bugs. Our body is intertwined with our brain, so it’s even possible for stress to be the leading factor of abdominal discomfort.

Undercooked or altered food can contaminate you with different viruses or bacteria. If you experience nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea in addition to stomachache, drink a cup of ginger tea, a few times a day. This will calm the spasms and kill bacteria.

  • Castor oil for constipation

This problem affects many people and is to blame for stomach cramps and stomach aches. Instead of taking a pill that can have side effects, drink lots of water and take up to 2 tablespoons of castor oil before you eat.

  • Peppermint oil capsules for irritable bowel syndrome

This syndrome also known as IBS, is responsible for bloating, constipation, diarrhea and can also be accentuated by factors like stress. All these symptoms, together with the stomach spasm, can be diminished by taking peppermint capsules.

  • Chamomile tea for bloating and gas

Different foods or stress can cause our stomach to accumulate gas resulting in a bloated stomach. Later, it makes its way through the intestines and causes discomfort and pain. Chamomile tea will relax the stomach and prevent gas from forming.

  • Caffeine for menstrual pains

This is a common problem that affects most women. Due to its antioxidant properties, caffeine can ease the cramping and discomfort by stimulating the cardiovascular system. It will also reduce blood clotting. A cup of coffee or a glass of wine could alleviate the pain.

Other problems that can affect our digestive system

  • Heart burns – this problem occurs due to the acid that rises from the stomach all the way to the esophagus, irritating it.

  • Gastroesophageal reflux – it can be compared to heart burns and it shares some similarities, but it’s a more severe condition and can lead to cancer.

  • Indigestion – the acid in the stomach irritates the lining of the stomach and leads to the swelling of the tissues.

Symptoms: burping, bloating, nausea

  • Pregnancy – can be confused with menstrual pains

Symptoms: cramps and spasmodic pain.
