Linseed and Coconut Oils for Heel Spurs

Heel spurs occur because of calcium deposits that appear under the heel bone. This problem is usually observed in those who have flat feet, but those with high arches are not spared of this issue either. Athletes performing regular jumping and running deal with heel spurs. They also occur in women wearing high heels. Some of the most common causes for heel spurs are diabetes, walking on hard surfaces while barefoot, wearing tight shoes, obesity, jogging or running on hard surfaces, age etc. The most known symptom for heel spurs is the pain in the heel or the rear of the foot. This problem can be easily treated with natural home remedies.

Linseed and Coconut Oils for Heel Spurs

Linseed Oil

Linseed oil is rich in an omega-3 unsaturated fatty acid known as alpha-linolenic acid. It has the capacity to reduce both the inflammation and the pain. At the same time, this type of oil lessens the morning stiffness. Heat the linseed oil (1/4 cup) and apply it on the affected area using a piece of cheesecloth. Now, use a piece of plastic to cover the entire area. Keep the place warm and don’t move your feet for a few hours. Use the remedy one time per day.

Borax

This is an alkaline substance that can treat heel spurs and make the pain disappear. It also keeps the levels of minerals and hormones at an optimal level so that your bones can be healthy. Mix borax (1/2 teaspoon) with cold chlorinated water (4 cups). Use this solution to soak your feet in it. Leave them in for almost half an hour. Do this procedure before going to bed. Repeat the treatment every day for 2 – 3 weeks.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The mighty apple cider vinegar is also useful in this case. It extracts the calcium deposits, reduces the inflammation and offers pain relief. Dip a piece of clean cloth or towel in apple cider vinegar. Make sure its size is similar to your foot size because you will have to wear it in your shoes. The towel must be moist during the day. Use this treatment for minimum 7 days. You can also take apple cider vinegar internally. Mix unfiltered and raw apple cider vinegar (1 tablespoon) with honey (1 tablespoon) and combine them with a glass of water. Make sure the water is warm. Consume this solution 2 times per day for a couple of weeks.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is similar to apple cider vinegar, meaning that it can reduce the calcium deposits that cause the heel spurs. At the same time, it reduces inflammation and pain. Mix some water with baking soda (1/2 teaspoon) to obtain a paste. Apply it on the affected area and cover with a bandage so that it stays in place. Do this 2 times per day for almost one week.

Coconut Oil

Last, but not least, you can try using some coconut oil. It is a moisturizing agent and relieves the pain while softening the spur. The coconut oil is also rich in calcium and aids the bone formation. Use warm coconut oil to massage the area. Let it cure for a couple of hours and repeat the procedure every evening, before bedtime.
