How to Deal with Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue is a common health issue nowadays, but most people are not even aware that they suffer from it. Adrenals are responsible for producing a type hormones that are meant to help you cope with stress. However, the glands tend to reduce their functioning after a stressful event or prolonged stress. Other factors which can affect them are poor diet and exposure to several toxins present in your environment. When the adrenals do not function correctly, you experience fatigue.

Even though feeling constantly tired or exhausted is not desirable, if you suffer from adrenal fatigue, there is no medical treatment for this condition. However, you can still cope with it, by making a few changes in your daily routine, including your habits and diet. Let’s see what you can do to help your adrenals and deal with this type of fatigue.

  • Get enough sleep

If you think that you can function perfectly with 6 hours of sleep per night, you are definitely wrong. The proof for this is your adrenal fatigue. If you want to improve the way in which your adrenals function, you should get 7 to 9 hours of sleep. Otherwise, your body will perceive the lack of sleep as another source of stress, which will worsen your symptoms. Maybe it sounds like a luxury to you to sleep 9 hours each night, but you should try this at least for a few weeks until your adrenals recover.

  • Reduce caffeine

Ok, maybe giving up to your cup of coffee in the morning is next to impossible for you, and it may actually produce more stress, but you have to control the caffeine intake. For example, cut on the amount of coffee you drink or abstain from caffeinated beverages.

  • Eat foods that are rich in cholesterol

Your adrenal glands need cholesterol for their normal functioning, so you should eat foods that have a high level of good cholesterol. Even the bad one is used as fuel by these glands.

  • Stay away from stress factors

By this, we don’t mean that you should quit your job or move to the countryside, but try to manage the stress factors from your life. For example, a simple step is to clean your desk at work and maintain the order in your room. If you tend to accept too many responsibilities because you are not able to refuse anyone, maybe it is time to learn to say no. This way, you can keep away unnecessary stress sources, which will help you manage the necessary one – such as your job – much better.

  • Do activities you find relaxing

Another way of dealing with adrenal fatigue is to get involved in activities you find relaxing, but you have to do this regularly. For example, if reading a book or having a long bubble bath helps you to disconnect from your stressful routine, you should go with this activities whenever you have the chance. Doing what you like once in a blue moon cannot decrease your stress level considerably or contribute to a visible improvement of your adrenals function.
