Buttermilk Can Improve Various Aspects Of Your Health – Here Is How

Buttermilk is a delicious fermented dairy beverage that is often consumed cold during hot days. One big advantage of it is the fact that it can be safely consumed by lactose intolerant people, as the fermentation leads to lactose sugar turning into lactic acid.

The nutritional value makes it ideal for consumption: vitamin A, D and B12 can be found here, along with calcium, protein, selenium, potassium, phosphorous and probiotics. However, there are various ways in which you can use this drink topically.

Here are some of the biggest benefits of buttermilk:

  • Helps you find relief from skin spots

Lactic acid, a common ingredient used in many skin products, can be found naturally in buttermilk. It will exfoliate the skin, helping eliminate unwanted marks while still keeping the area well moisturized.

You can simply apply buttermilk with a cotton ball and let it act for a few minutes before rinsing with water. Do it once or twice a day.

  • Brightens and makes your skin softer

Having your skin exfoliated due to the lactic acid will also lead to a brighter, livelier skin. There are two approaches for maximum effect.

The first one is to mix buttermilk with one teaspoon of turmeric and ½ cup of gram flour until you obtain a paste. Apply it to your face once a week and rinse with water once it dries on its own.

The second option is to add a pinch of saffron in ½ cup buttermilk and leave the composition to sit for 30 minutes. Massage gently into your skin, leave it for 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water. This one can be done daily.

  • Helps with your digestion

The probiotics found in buttermilk are excellent when it digestion. That is because the good bacteria helps ensure the health of your stomach and gut by limiting the population of harmful bacteria. Various other problems related to your digestive tract can be avoided by consuming buttermilk regularly. Simply drinking a glass of it after each meal is enough in order to see improvement.

  • It is a great source of calcium for everyone

Buttermilk can provide the necessary dose of calcium for those that are lactose intolerant. This mineral is essential for the health of muscles, bones, teeth and even the nervous system, so the habit of drinking it can become invaluable.

  • Improves hair and scalp health

The vitamins and proteins in buttermilk are excellent for your hair, nourishing it and keeping its overall health.

Mix ½ cup of buttermilk and a banana in a blender and apply it on your scalp and hair. After 30 minutes, rinse with cold water. Do it once a week to keep your hair in great shape.

Buttermilk can also help you get rid of dandruff due to the ability of the lactic acid to fight fungi on the scalp – a common cause of dandruff. Simply apply buttermilk to your scalp, massage gently for 10 minutes and wash it off with warm water after letting it act for 15 minutes. Do it 3 or 4 times a week.

Buttermilk has various other health benefits, such as being able to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, reducing heat stroke risks and detoxifying your skin. If this drink didn’t catch your attention yet, it might be the time to give it a chance.
