Acid reflux is a common condition, and its main symptom is a burning sensation in the esophagus or chest. This sensation is also called heartburn.
After you eat, the esophageal sphincter closes and keeps all the food and the gastric acid in the stomach. - Baking soda
Baking soda is used to treat indigestion and other conditions of the digestive tract, especially those related to stomach acidity. When you feel that you have acid reflux, try a solution based on baking soda. Take one teaspoon of baking soda and dissolve it in a cup of water. Drink this solution and you will feel an immediate ease of the symptoms.
However, it is not recommended to drink this solution too often, because baking soda contains plenty of salt so it may have side effects if taken regularly.
- Chamomile tea
This tea can prevent heartburn and it has anti-inflammatory proprieties. Drink a cup of chamomile tea an hour before going to bed. This way, you will reduce the risk of nighttime heartburn.
What to avoid
- Coffee
Coffee irritates the stomach and also causes the esophageal sphincter to relax. These two aspects will definitely increase the risk of heartburn, so reduce the consumption of coffee.
- Laying down
Don’t lay down and don’t go right to bed after eating. If your esophageal sphincter doesn’t close completely while you are up, the situation will worsen for sure when you will lay down.
- Citrus fruits
It is well-known that citrus fruits such as grapefruit, oranges, tangerines and others are acidic. They produce a higher acidity in your stomach, which will lead to acid reflux.
