2 Cups of Coffee per Day Keep the Doctor Away

Coffee lovers, unite! The days when everyone kept saying that ‘coffee is bad for your health’ are disappearing, and benefits keep rising instead. What’s mostly known is that coffee can be a great ally for your liver!

coffee for liver

You already knew that you couldn’t really start your morning without a cup of coffee or two. While there are still many studies trying to prove that coffee is a ‘healthy beverage,’ a lot of studies already show that by drinking a moderate amount of coffee every day, you can reduce the risk of ending up with cirrhosis, cancer or fibrosis.

However, to reduce problems, you should only stick to 2-3 cups per day, and also avoid drinking it before bedtime. While you may be able to fall asleep right away, you’ll just end up waking up in the middle of the night, staring at the ceiling and regretting your life decisions.

Coffee against Cirrhosis

Every year, an average of 1.2 million people die in the world from liver cirrhosis, and the numbers are still increasing. The disease can be caused by hepatitis infections, excessive alcohol consumption, fatty liver disease and immune disorders. However, studies show that an average of 2 coffee cups per day can lower your chances of ending up with alcohol-induced cirrhosis.

Cirrhosis, widely explained, is a disease that turns healthy liver tissue into scar tissue, blocking the blood flow in the liver and preventing it from functioning properly. The theory is that caffeine has the ability to metabolize into a substance known as paraxanthine, preventing the growth of connective scar tissue and postponing/preventing the apparition of cirrhosis.

Liver Cancer Kept at Bay by Coffee

Thousands of people die every year because of liver cancer, and it’s one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Coffee is packed with over 100 active substances which include caffeine, polyphenols, and antioxidants. These, in return, help to keep your liver safe from cancer (if consumed moderately).

However, coffee not only works on healthy people that want to prevent liver cancer; it also works on those who already have a history with liver problems. Studies conducted on such patients show an improvement on the state of the liver, this way decreasing the risk of developing liver cancer. Two cups of coffee per day are said to reduce liver cancer by up to 44%.

Drinking Coffee Keeps You Healthy

Coffee can protect you from many things. It can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, fight depression, prevent premature death and help you burn fat and lose weight.

However, coffee needs to be drunk in a certain way so that it doesn’t become a poison instead. More that 2-3 cups per day can lead to heart problems, and drinking it on an empty stomach can cause stomach issues and a drop in blood sugar. It is best that you drink your coffee after a meal, and refrain from adding artificial sweeteners or sugar. If you want to improve the taste, you can do so with a bit of honey or a dash of cinnamon powder.
