Used Tea Bags? Don’t Throw Them Away!

The great thing about winter and cold is that you can indulge yourself in a variety of hot beverages. Hot chocolate or tea, they are both great when it is cold outside. However, the drink that has a tradition of thousands of years and a reputation in traditional medicine is tea.

Generally, we drink tea for pleasure or when we feel the need to have our sore throats soothed by this miracle beverage. We drink our tea and then we go on with our daily activities, not paying attention to a remedy that is right under our nose: the used tea bags. Wondering what could you possibly do with those? Here are some ideas:

  • Treat your acne

Start by brewing a cup of green tea, take out the tea bag and leave it aside for 30 minutes. For 5-10 minutes, apply the tea bag on your affected area and then rinse your skin using cold water. Repeat this twice a day until you have no acne left.

  • No aging signs

Take a bowl and put the content of 2 used tea bags in it. Add 2 tsp. of honey to it and then some lemon juice. Apply the mixture on your face and neck for 5-10 minutes and remove it with some lukewarm water.

  • No bad breath

Take 2-3 tea bags and steep them in some boiling water for 15 minutes. Let the tea cool off and add a few drops of tea tree oil. Use the combination as a mouthwash twice a day.

  • Shiny hair

Take 2 used tea bags and brew them in 1 cup of water, then let the composition cool. Rinse your hair with this solution after shampooing it. Apply it by massaging the scalp for 5 minutes and then rinse the hair with plain water.

  • No puffy eyes

Take 2 tea bags that have already been used and put them in your refrigerator. Put them over your lids, as you lay down and stay like this for 15 minutes.

  • Sunburns and razor burns

Take 10-12 used tea bags and put them in your bath water. Stay in there for 20 minutes to get relief from sunburns or razor burns.

  • Toenail fungus

Put in your refrigerator some used tea bags for 30 minutes and then place them on the toenails affected by the fungus, for 15 minutes.

  • Skin exfoliator

Mix the content of some used tea bags with some olive oil and apply the paste on the face and neck for 15 minutes. With circular motions, rub off the paste afterwards. Use lukewarm water for that.

  • Plant protection

Use your already used tea bags to make a mild brew. Let the solution cool off, then transfer it in a spray bottle. Spray your plants with it. You can also add some tea bags on the bottom of the pot to help the soil retain more water.

  • Organic compost

If they are made of polypropylene, the already used tea bags can be used once again in the process of speeding up the decomposition of the plant material.
