Home Remedies to Cure Dandruff
Contents
Dandruff is caused by seborrheic dermatitis, a skin condition, or by a dry scalp. Other causes for dandruff can be psoriasis, the fungus known as malassezia or eczema. Whatever the cause may be, this condition is quite uncomfortable causing itching and irritations on your scalp and, when it’s serious and noticeable, can be very unpleasant and embarrassing in social situations. The drugstores sell anti-dandruff shampoos that promise to cure dandruff, but besides the active ingredients like ketoconazole and zinc pyrithione, they also contain different chemicals that can worsen your condition by leaving your scalp drier than it is. To be sure that your hair benefits from the best treatments, you should try some of the following home remedies.
Tea Tree Oil
Dandruff severity can be improved with shampoos containing just 5% of this beneficial oil. If you can’t find any hair product with tea tree oil at your local drugstore, you can buy a bottle of this essential oil and simply add a couple of drops in your favorite shampoo. It will have the same wonderful effect.
Baking Soda
The cure for your itching scalp can be found in your kitchen – baking soda. After you wet your hair use a handful of this ingredient and rub it into your scalp. Don’t use shampoo after this operation and just rinse your hair as normal. Baking soda is efficient in reducing the fungi that lead to dandruff. You will notice that your hair will be a bit dry in the beginning, but if you continue with this treatment for a couple of weeks, you will see that your hair will get softer and, what’s more important, dandruff-free.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil was long proven to be effective against dandruff. The greatest thing about it is that it also has a “delicious” smell. Use up to 5 tablespoons of this oil to massage your scalp. You will have to leave the coconut oil on your scalp for almost 60 minutes and after that shampoo normally. If you find this too troublesome, you can search for a shampoo containing coconut oil.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Thanks to the acidity of this type of vinegar, your scalp’s pH will be changed and, as a result, the yeast will find it harder to grow in this medium. To use this treatment, you must mix ¼ cup of water with ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar. Put the mixture in a spray bottle so as to spritz it on your hair and scalp. Wrap a towel around your head and sit for up to 60 minutes. After that, rinse your hair. Repeat the ritual 2 times per week.
Aloe Vera
If you want to get rid of the itching caused by dandruff, you can use aloe vera. Use it as a gel to massage it into your scalp and then shampoo as you normally do.
Lemon
This fruit is an efficient dandruff relief. Squeeze the juice from one lemon and use 2 tablespoons of this liquid to massage your scalp and hair. You can also rinse your hair with lemon by preparing a mixture of water (1 cup) and lemon juice (1 teaspoon). You can repeat this treatment daily to make the dandruff disappear.
