Causes

Body acne usually has the same causes as facial acne. Acne is triggered by a hyperactivity of the oil glands that produce sebum, too many dead skin cells, or a rapid multiplication of bacteria. Body acne is common for the upper body because there is the highest density of sebaceous glands compared to other areas of the human body.

Sweating a lot may also increase the risk of body acne. Moreover, the risk is even higher when someone who sweats a lot wears synthetic clothes that do not absorb moisture, but rather lead to a higher temperature of the body, which will also result in more perspiration.

Taking all these into consideration, it is important for people who suffer from body acne to wear clothes made out of natural fabrics, such as cotton, especially when they perform physical activities. Regular showers are also a must because the sebaceous glands should never be clogged.

Home remedies

  • Baking soda

Baking soda is a natural remedy used for acne because it absorbs the excess of sebum. Furthermore, it also helps your skin to heal quicker and rebalances the natural pH level of the skin.

Put some baking soda into a cup and add a few drops of water so that you will obtain a paste. Use this paste as an anti-acne mask and apply it on the pimples and red spots. Leave it there for several minutes, and then rinse with lukewarm water.

  • Tea tree essential oil

Tea tree essential oil has wonderful antibacterial proprieties, being one of the most powerful essential oils. As it may be a little too strong for the first use, you can mix it with an equal amount of olive or coconut oil. This solution can be efficiently used as a natural remedy for both facial and body acne. Besides treating the pimples, tea tree essential oil will also inhibit the spread of the bacteria to other areas of your body.

  • Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial proprieties. These attributes make it an amazing ally when dealing with acne.

Make a solution out of two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and two tablespoons of water. Apply this to the affected areas. This will help to ease the inflammation and kill the bacteria that cause the acne.

  • Honey and turmeric

Honey is an efficient moisturizer while turmeric regulates the sebum productions. Turmeric is also used for lightening the skin, especially the scars. That’s another reason for using it as a natural remedy for acne.

One teaspoon of turmeric together with two tablespoons of honey is the perfect combination for treating body acne. Apply the resulted paste on the trouble areas and rinse with water after 10-15 minutes.
