How it works
Now, it may sound weird because salt is usually associated with a negative increase of blood pressure and inflammations, but when it is used externally, salt has a completely opposite effect. Salt compresses act as a powerful diuretic, stimulating the water elimination straight through the skin. Thus, they can easily sure edema and reduce the pain caused by this problem.
Method
Try this simple remedy that comes in handy and quickly alleviates the pain whenever you are feeling a powerful headache or feet pain caused by edema:
- Pack a piece of gauze into 8 layers or use a piece of cloth made of cotton; it needs to be big enough to fit your head, if you are using it for the forehead, or the feet, if you are using it to reduce edema.
- Place 250 ml of water in a bowl and add 2 teaspoons of sea salt and put the whole combination on your gas cooker. You will obtain an 8% of saline solution.
- Wash your forehead, the ears and the back of your head or your feet with this warm water.
- Soak in the material for the compress and gently squeeze the excessive amount of liquid.
- Shake it just a bit to cool it down and then wrap it around your head, your ears and the back of your head or just around your ankles or your calves (or any other places that might have been affected by the swelling process, at the level of your feet).
- Then, you must fix the bolster with a scarf, or any other material that you have around the house.
- Lay in bed and just relax.
- The pain will be relieved in a matter of minutes.
- Maintain the bolster for another 20 minutes, so that the pain can go away completely.
- After you take it off, just wash off your skin with a bit of warm water.
In case of edema, perform this action for about 10 days in a row, and do it in the evening, before going to bed. Cover your feet and keep them warm for 20 minutes. The swelling will be diminished because of the frequent urination process that will take place right after the first compress.
