What You Shouldn’t Eat After a Workout Session

As long as you get into a gym, or commit to a sport and take care of your body, you should also be aware that what you choose to eat after a workout session has the same level of importance as to what you consume during the rest of the day.


You will be surprised to know that it’s not always a great choice to pick a salad or a smoothie as a meal after you’ve burned all those calories.

Experts say that it’s important to hydrate and eat after a long and hard gym session, but keep in mind that you should wait at least 15 minutes till that meal, and no more than two hours.

  • Avoid hummus

Even though the levels of protein found in chickpeas are high, hummus is not a great post-workout option. Most likely, you will suffer the side-effects which consist of excess gas and abdominal pain.

  • Do not touch the protein bar

Usually protein bars contain a lot of calories, carbohydrates and, of course, sugar. Before you reach for that treat, make sure that all your efforts won’t go down the drain, or that the bar doesn’t contain over 200 calories.

  • Coffee is not your friend

If the gym session has left you a little off-balance and kind of tired, instead of grabbing a hot cup of coffee which will be extremely high in calories, you’d better opt for a cup of black tea.

  • Salad is best left for another meal

By containing a lot of fibers, a salad won’t be very well tolerated by your body at this moment. The chances are that, even though it has a lot of nutrients, the salad will leave you bloated.

  • Roasted nuts are bad for you

All sorts of nuts contain a very high level of sodium that can dehydrate you after a workout, so it is best to stay away from anything that will make your body lose water right now.

  • Leave green smoothies for another time

Although smoothies are healthy and found basically in every diet, just after a session is best to stay away from them considering that they are low on carbs. Other than that, fibers will give you gas and abdominal pain.

  • Sodas are a big no

If you feel thirsty, drink a glass of water instead of reaching for some soda. The large quantity of sugar that it contains will only eliminate the effect of your workout and still leave you thirsty.

  • Yogurt is not after-practice food

Experts suggest that you should avoid dairy due to the long time they need to digest, even if they can make a great snack in any other moment of the day. The chances are that they will leave you unsatisfied and not feeling so great.

What you think is healthy for you is not always the best choice, especially after a workout session. So, choose carefully the best options for your body.
