Summer holiday is close, and you already see yourself sunbathing. Unfortunately, many times, you forget to put sunscreen on and the results are painful. Sunburn is not only painful but also harmful for your skin and body.
There are many products on the market that we can use to treat sunburn. But when we use them, we open the door to chemicals into our bodies.
Sodium hydroxide is an eye and skin irritant frequently used in products such as sunburn gels. When inhaled, this chemical causes irritation of the respiratory tract, including throat, lungs, mouth and nose. Triethanolamine is another chemical found in these products. It is a human carcinogen and can also cause irritation of the respiratory tract.
If you think that you are applying products made of healthy ingredients, think again. Fortunately, there are many plants that showed positive results in treating sunburns. You can choose from raw honey, coconut oil or aloe vera, to name a few.
Honey has anti-microbial properties which can efficiently heal the skin from burns and wounds. Honey can prevent infections and hydrate the affected skin during the healing process.
For hundreds of years, aloe vera has been used as a natural burn remedy. It can speed the skin’s recovery; it has eight enzymes which reduce inflammation and two types of hormones that reduce inflammation and speed up healing. Aloe vera also has a unique cooling sensation, which soothes the sensitive and itchy skin.
This miraculous oil also has skin healing and antimicrobial properties. It will help your skin heal faster and, thanks to its anti-inflammatory power, it also relieves discomfort caused by sunburn. Coconut oil also acts as an analgesic. This is why it can reduce pain associated with any types of burns.
