Top Uses of Coriander Oil for Your Skin

It is most likely that you have already heard of the wonders of essential oils, but while you keep using that lavender oil, be sure to make room for one more essential oil: coriander oil.

Coriander oil is made out of the plant’s seeds, known under the name of cilantro. But cilantro oil and coriander oil are not the same thing. Coriander oil is made from the seeds, while cilantro oil is made from the leaves. Coriander was introduced in Europe in the 18th century by the Egyptians. Coriander smells a bit sweet, spicy and woody. You can combine coriander with ginger, myrtle, lemon, nutmeg, orange and so many other plants.

What can coriander oil do for my skin?

Coriander oil is high in antioxidants that destroy free radicals, vitamin C and friendly minerals. At the same time, it has antiseptic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties.

Here is what it can do for your skin:

  • Reduces the number of pimples/blackheads/moles and breakouts. You need to add 1 teaspoon of lemongrass, chamomile and coriander to a pan. On top of that, put 1 cup of boiling water and then let it stay for 1 hour. Then, place it in a blender and make a paste out of it. Apply the paste on the affected areas. Keep it for 20 minutes and clean with some warm water. End with some cold water.
  • Treats wounds/sunburns/scars – take 1 tablespoon of crushed coriander seeds and put them in 1 cup of olive, sunflower or almond oil. Let it sit for one week, then apply overnight on the affected areas. Repeat daily.
  • Tones and revitalizes your skin – 2 egg whites, some coriander leaves and ½ cup of uncooked oats will be put in a blender. Make it a paste and apply on the freshly cleaned face. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes or as long as it takes to harden, then rinse off.
  • Smooths the skin – ¼ cup of milk, ½ cup of oatmeal,1 handful of fresh coriander with ¼ cup of cucumber (chopped) will be tossed into the blender. Blend and when it looks smooth, pour the mix into a recipient. Apply it on your skin and let it sit for 20 minutes, then clean.
  • Treats lips – for cracked lips, you need to prepare a paste from 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of coriander juice. Apply over the night on the lips and clean it in the morning. Repeat the procedure a few days.
  • Treats dry and itchy skin – make a mixture of honey, water and some coriander seeds and apply it on the itching areas.

Before you use any essential oil on your skin, you should test your skin sensitivity. Also, be sure you use the oils with precaution, even if you passed the skin sensitivity test. They are very potent and can cause skin problems when used in excess. If you buy the essential oils, find a brand that suits you and stick with it. Also, do not use any essential oil in other way than the label says.
