You probably know that stretch marks are the off-colored lines which can be easily spotted on the surface of the skin. Usually, they are located on the abdomen, but they can also be found on breast, thighs and buttocks. They sometimes can take up a large part of the body and they are usually triggered by pregnancy. However, they might also be caused by a sudden weight loss or gain, stress, rapid growth or family history.
The skin is composed of 3 layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the hypodermic, the deepest layer of the skin. These marks are placed in the dermis when the tissues connecting the muscles are being stretched at a level that exceeds their normal capabilities because of a rapid skin contraction or expansion. The production of collagen is weakened up until the point when it is damaged and interrupted. And this is how this red looking marks appear at the beginning. In time, they will become thinner and more silvery.
You might believe that they cannot be dealt with, but there are some natural ways to get rid of them.
- White sugar
It is used for exfoliating purposes. Mix 2 tbsp. of sugar with some lemon juice and almond oil. Mix everything and apply on the stretch marks. Rub the skin for about 10 minutes gently and take a shower. Repeat this for about a month.
Staying constantly hydrated will keep you away from many health related issues. Your skin will get to detoxify regularly and it will take back its elasticity. Stay away from sodas, coffee or tea and, instead, drink about 8 or 10 glasses of water per day.
- Olive oil

Allow it to sit for 30 minutes so that your skin would be able to soak in all the vitamins. You may also apply it as a night cream, if combined with water and vinegar.
- Lemon juice
Simply take a lemon and rub it on the affected areas in circular motions. Let the juice stay on the skin for 10 minutes and then wash it using warm water. You can also mix it with cucumber juice.
- Aloe Vera

You can rub the gel from the plant directly onto your skin and allow it to rest for a few minutes. You can also create a mixture made of 10 capsules of vitamin E, 5 capsules of vitamin A and ¼ cup of aloe vera gel.
- Potato juice
It contains minerals and vitamins that will recreate the affected areas of your skin. Cut a potato into thick slices and then rub it onto your skin. Allow the juice to dry before washing it off your skin with warm water.
