Fight against Oily Skin with Natural Treatments

If you’re dealing with an oily skin, it means that you have an overabundance of sebum released by your sebaceous glands. Sebum is a natural waxy substance produced in order to protect your skin, but when it’s pumped in larger amounts, it makes your skin look too shiny and unnatural. Moreover, an overabundance of sebum can often lead to acne. This condition can be caused by stress, heredity or changes in your hormone activity.

Natural Treatments for Oily Skin

The good news is that the persons with oily skin will age better than those with normal or dry skin. However, if you have this type of skin, you need to offer it more attention, especially when cleansing it. Be careful with the scrubbing. If you overdo it, your skin will produce more sebum.

Wash Your Skin Well

First of all, you should know that hot water is better for dissolving oil than cool water. Then, you should make use of a face wash that includes AHAs or alpha-hydroxy acids: glycolic acid, lactic acid or citric acid. These acids combat infection, reduce the oil production and remove the dead skin cells. Avoid the soap bars or liquid face wash that contain too many moisturizers or perfume as they will do you more harm.

Use a Homemade Toner

The next step after washing your face is toning it. So as to be sure that your toner is natural and healthy, you can make one of your own. For example, you can use herbs with astringent properties such as peppermint, sage and yarrow. You can use either of these herbs, because they are all effective. So, put a tablespoon of sage, yarrow or peppermint in a cup, then pour boiling water over it. Leave it for half an hour, strain the liquid and use it only after it has cooled. You can store this liquid in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or at room temperature for 3 days.

Another amazing herbal toner that you can try is made if hyssop. The recipe is the same. Use 1 tablespoon of the herb for one cup of boiling water. Strain it, let it cool and then apply the liquid on your face. All these herbs have the power to absorb the oil and leave your skin healthier.

End the Ritual with a Natural Facial Mask

Some of the most efficient masks in reducing greasiness are those made of mud or clay. You can make your own mask with witch hazel and facial clay. Add one tablespoon of each and mix well until they become homogeneous. Leave it on for about ten minutes and then you can rinse it off.

Mango is also used for toning and drying the skin. So, take one mango, mash it and then use the soft pulp to massage your skin. After that, leave it on for 2 or 3 minutes and rinse off. Not only that will reduce the production of sebum, but will also unclog your pores, so it has a double effect.

Last, but not least, we must not forget about the lemon juice that is extremely effective in numerous grease-cutting masks. For instance, you can use a mashed apple, a teaspoon of peppermint, lavender or sage and a teaspoon of the miraculous lemon juice. Mix the ingredients well and apply the mask on your skin. Leave it for five minutes and use warm water to rinse it. Your face will have a more natural and cleaner look afterwards.
