Cinnamon and Lemon for Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is the inflammation of the tonsils, meaning the lymph nodes situated on the right and left sides of your throat. Children are often affected by tonsillitis, but it can also occur in adults. This condition can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection that causes the tonsils to grow bigger. Tonsillitis comes with symptoms such as sneezing, sore throat, bad breath, fever, headache, swollen glands, runny nose and difficulty in swallowing. Thus, it is similar to a common cold. This disease is extremely contagious and, as a result, it must be treated as soon as possible. You can try some of the following natural treatments to get rid of this condition.

Cinnamon and Lemon for Tonsillitis

Lemon

You may already know that lemon has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral properties and can immediately inhibit inflammations and infections. At the same time, it is rich in vitamin C and strengthens the immune system. Mix lukewarm water (one glass) with honey (1 teaspoon), salt (1 pinch) and lemon juice. Drink this solution for a couple of days, until you notice the improvement. Consume it two times per day.

Cinnamon

Tonsillitis can also be treated with cinnamon. This spice has antimicrobial properties and will stop the growth of the micro-organisms and the bacteria. As a result, it diminishes the inflammation, the pain and the swelling. Mix one cup of hot water with cinnamon powder (1 teaspoon). You can also add honey (2 teaspoons). Drink the solution slowly for at least 3 times daily. Repeat the remedy for 7 days.

Basil

Basil has anti-inflammatory and antiviral qualities and it also comes with soothing and healing properties. Thus, it speeds up the healing process and reduces the pain and the swelling. Prepare a basil tea with almost 12 basil leaves and drink the tea thrice a day for up to 4 days.

Fenugreek

Methi or fenugreek comes with antibacterial properties and it can immediately offer you relief from tonsillitis by killing the bacteria causing it. At the same time, it has anti-inflammatory properties and provides instant relief from inflammation and pain. Combine 3 glasses of water with fenugreek seeds (2 tablespoons) and let it simmer for around half an hour. Strain the tea and after it has cooled down, you can use it to gargle for 30 seconds. Repeat the remedy 2 times per day, until you see any improvement.

Figs

These are also efficient in curing tonsillitis. They have mucilage content and they can diminish the soreness and the pain. Boil 3 dried figs and after that mash them. Add some honey and eat this mixture thrice per day for 4 to 5 days. Also, you can mash the figs in the same water you used to boil them and apply the mixture on the throat (on the outer part). After it has dried, you can use warm water to wash it off. Repeat this remedy once a day for more efficiency.

You can also get rid of tonsillitis by using remedies like carom seeds, mint, salt water, turmeric and slippery elm.
