Acne is a common skin problem nowadays, and it can occur in both men and women. If this issue usually improves throughout time, in other situations it can get worse. However, even after you get rid of acne – no matter if naturally or with medical prescriptions – you still have the scars. There are numerous cosmetic products that promise to eliminate or lighten them, but most of these items are extremely expensive. Moreover, some people do not opt for these products because they are filled with parabens, sulfates, preservatives, colorants, silicones, mineral oils, and other compounds that may affect the overall health or the appearance of the skin for the long term. But there are also natural remedies for acne scars, which are much safer. One of this is castor oil.
What makes castor oil a good treatment for acne scars?
Fatty acids, such as omega-3, promote the regeneration of the skin, as they penetrate deeply through it. They help you get rid of the scars by stimulating the growth of new skin cells.
Moreover, the functioning of the lymphatic system is also enhanced by castor oil. This way, more lymphocytes are produced in your body, and they make the skin less prone to scars.
Rich in proteins, vitamin E, and minerals, castor oil reduces discoloration and improves the appearance of the skin considerably.
This oil is also known for its anti-inflammatory proprieties, and it helps in detoxifying the healthy skin cells. Furthermore, it improves blood circulation.
How to use it
- Castor Oil
Before going to bed, after you have cleansed your face – a gentle scrub is recommended – apply a small amount of this oil on the affected area and massage the skin for several minutes. In the morning, wash it off. If you want to reduce the scars faster, do this process twice a day, so that the nutrients can help your skin through the day, too.
- Castor Oil with Lemon
Mix equal quantities of lemon juice and castor oil and then apply the solution on the affected areas. Leave it on for about 5-10 minutes, or until it is dried. Before washing it, you can use two tablespoons of green gram flour to massage the skin. This will act as a scrub and will remove the dead cells. Then, rinse it off with lukewarm water.
- Castor Oil with Coconut Oil
The coconut oil also promotes skin regeneration and helps the body at a cellular level, which makes it an excellent ally for healing acne scars. Mixed with castor oil, it enhances its proprieties.
To prepare the solution, you need 1-2 tablespoons of castor oil. Add a few drops of organic coconut oil and mix the solution, then apply it on the affected areas. Massage gently for about 2 minutes, and then leave it on for 5-7 more minutes. After this, you can wash your face.
The attributes of castor oil are also boosted by olive oil so that you can replace the coconut oil with this one. However, in this case, you have to leave the solution on for about 30-40 minutes.
