Benefits of Hydrogen Peroxide You Did Not Know About
Not many of us know that hydrogen peroxide can be safely used in our homes. Chemists would tell you that it is an inorganic chemical compound that contains two oxygen and two hydrogen, so nothing helpful in this. Maybe it will ring a bell if we tell you that you can use hydrogen peroxide as a disinfecting agent. You dissolve it in water to kill off fungi, bacteria, viruses and other germs.
But hydrogen peroxide has so many other uses that you do not know about. Let’s see how exactly you can use this substance and for what purposes.
- Bath
You can add hydrogen peroxide in a hot bath. No, it will not melt off your skin. On the contrary, it will remove dangerous chemicals and toxins from your skin without affecting it. Pour a liter of 3% hydrogen peroxide and soak your body in the hot water bathtub for half an hour.
- Disinfectant for wounds
Hydrogen peroxide can also be used to disinfect open wounds on the skin surface, such as lacerations and cuts, before putting on stitches. Damaged cells release catalase, an enzyme that creates foam when coated with hydrogen peroxide. If you put hydrogen peroxide on an almost healed wound, and it produces foam, this means that there is still bacterial infection in there.
- Ear wax removal
It is not good for your health to use ear buds to clean your ears. Accidents might happen, and you can easily perforate your tympanic membrane. To avoid any such unpleasant incidents, you can safely use 3% hydrogen solution. Just add several drops into the ear canal and you will hear a crackling sound. This means that the cerumen or ear wax starts dissolving.
- Feet fungal infections
It can take months or even years to get rid of feet fungal infection. Usually, fungal infections appear in the area between the toes, as this narrow space tends to be moist and create the perfect environment for the fungi. Some of the most common symptoms of fungal infection are bad odor and skin peeling. Make a 50:50 water and hydrogen peroxide solution and soak your feet in it every night before going to bed. Try to keep your feet dry to avoid a recurrence of the infection.
- Toothpaste
By adding 3% hydrogen peroxide to some baking soda, you will make a healthy, super-cleaning toothpaste. If creating your toothpaste is too much for you, just soak your toothbrush in 3% hydrogen peroxide solution and brush your teeth. This way, you will, at least, stay away from the germs that live on your toothbrush.
- Mouthwash
Stop spending money on expensive mouthwash solutions. You can create it yourself by mixing a capful of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a little liquid chlorophyll for the flavor, and you will get a single dose mouthwash. Hold the solution in your mouth for 5 minutes and spit it out. No nastier canker sores, bad breath, and tartar.
- Contact lenses
Many cleaning solutions for contact lenses contain hydrogen peroxide that breaks down protein build-up.
These are only a few of the many benefits of hydrogen peroxide that can make our lives easier and, why not, healthier.
