7 Natural Remedies for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that causes lots of pain and itching and that produces inflamed and red patches on your skin. For thousands of years, people have been using apple cider vinegar as a disinfectant and in recent studies it has been shown to reduce scalp itches caused by psoriasis. Use only organic apple cider vinegar and apply it on your scalp 2 to 3 times per week. To prevent the possible burning sensation, you can dilute it in water. In case you have open wounds on your scalp skin, avoid this natural remedy because it will irritate your skin.

4. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil comes from a plant in Australia and throughout the years it has been proven to have antiseptic properties. If you suffer from scalp psoriasis, you can use shampoos containing tea tree oil to relieve this condition. Use it in small quantities first, to see if you are allergic to it or not.

5. Fish Oil

Inflammation caused by psoriasis can be reduced by consuming fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as tuna and salmon. You can also take fish oil supplements, but they might be less efficient than the natural sources of omega-3s. Taking fish oil can also be beneficial for your immune system and your heart.

6. Oregon Grapes

This herb, which is also called barberry, can reduce the psoriasis symptoms and the inflammation. It has antimicrobial properties and can be applied topically as cream. You can find it in the healthy food stores.

7. Turmeric

Some people suffering from psoriasis have found relief when using turmeric. This plant comes from the ginger family and it can be found in various cheeses, mustards and curry powders. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and it can be taken in pill form. Also, if you like spicy foods, you can use turmeric curries in your meals.
