Inhalations for Respiratory Tract Disorders

Steam baths are wonderful complimentary therapies for those suffering from respiratory disorders. There are a couple of plants that will open the airways and help you recover after a sinus infection, cold or nasal allergy.

Inhalations for Respiratory Tract Disorders

Inhalations are certainly the oldest treatment for colds, flu, sinusitis, nasal congestion and cough. They are extremely easy to use at home and they help with calming and reducing symptoms. You can use the dried plants or herbal essential oils.

Inhalation Using Essential Oils

– 1 drops of pine essential oil

– 1 drop of thyme essential oil

– 1 drop of tea tree essential oil

– 1 drop of eucalyptus essential oil

– 4 cups of water

Let the water boil, pour it in a bowl and add the essential oils. Lean your face over the bowl, cover your head with a towel and inhale the hot steam, breathing deeply on your nose and exhaling on your mouth. A steam bath for the respiratory system will last 10 – 15 minutes, while the steam is still hot. This type of inhalation will unlock nasal congestion, stimulate the elimination of mucus excess, and reduce pressure, pain and sinus infections.

Inhalation Using Plants for Sinusitis

This recipe includes both essential oils and plants that treat respiratory tract infections.

– 1 teaspoon of yarrow

– 1 teaspoon of nettle

– 1 teaspoon of chamomile

– 4 – 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil

– 1 liter of water

Let the water boil and after that you can turn off the heat and pour it in a bowl. Add the dried plants and the essential oil. The inhalation should last 10 minutes and you can wash your hands afterwards. This kind of steam bath is recommended for those who suffer from sinusitis, allergic rhinitis or other respiratory infections and allergies, because it helps destroy bacteria found in the airways.

To unlock the sinuses, you can also use certain foods that have powerful decongestant properties such as grated horseradish, garlic or ginger.
