Fighting Melancholy and Psychical Fatigue with this “Happiness” Lotion

Hildegard von Bingen, the famous healer, known for her amazing cures used in the treatment of both internal and external illnesses, conceived a recipe capable of banishing the much talked about affliction: melancholy.

In reference to the plants used to create this lotion, Hildegard used to say that the juice obtained from the hollyhocks dissolves melancholy, while the juice obtained from sage, drains it completely. In addition to these, olive oil helps increasing the resistance to this threat and vinegar acts like a sponge, absorbing its sourness.

holyshocks for melancholy

In order to prepare this natural remedy, you need the following items:

  • 100 g of flowers of hollyhocks
  • 200 g of flowers of sage
  • 200 ml of olive oil or vinegar

As for the actual preparation process you must make sure that the flowers are fresh. Crush them down in a grinding mortar and then place them in a jar made of glass. Pour the olive oil or the vinegar on top of them and close the jar with a lid. Leave the whole mixing to macerate for about 1-2 weeks.

After the maceration process is complete and the plants have left their perfume and the healing substances into the liquid, the next step is to filter the whole mixture.

You can use this lotion externally by applying it in small portions on the forehead and on the temples. If the state of melancholy persists and doesn’t seem to go away easily, dip a towel into the lotion and then wrap it around the head, leaving it to pass over its properties for 3 days. During these days, the towel will be periodically dipped into the lotion and then wrapped around the head again.

The hollyhocks are usually gathered in June when it contains the highest concentration of curating properties. All of the plants’ parts can be used in medical purposes, but for this recipe in particular, only the flowers are needed.

Sage is known to be a good stimulant from a mental and emotional point of view and a true rejuvenating elixir, as well. It proved itself to be of great help in tiredness cases, having an overall effect of revitalizing the psyche and of eliminating fatigue and the lack of tonus. It’s an ideal plant for the elderly, due to the fact that it stimulates the memory, improves the mental activity and prevents the signs of senility.

Sage has to be avoided by the persons suffering from epilepsy or from any type of diabetes with a dependency of insulin. Also, it must not be consumed by the women who are during their lactation period, because it has the ability to stop the liquid flow.
